Train Wreck
A runaway freight train, being driven by a conductor who believes he has absolute and unbridled power over everything, is risking the lives and safety of all who call America home. To him, you need to pledge your undying support and love and get out of his way. Yes, the current president is about to test the limits of the US Constitution and the laws that govern our country as he orchestrates his revenge tour. He is the de facto leader of a political party that used to have as its mantra, a strict adherence to law and order and our Constitution.
He has issued orders in direct violation of our Constitution. He is openly breaking the law claiming that he is the law. In his view, the law is whatever he says it is. Due process be damned. He will fire anyone who claims otherwise. He is currently attempting a takeover of the FBI and its 38,000 employees through threats and intimidation. He wants to fire all employees who were involved in the investigation of his last assault on our constitution. These employees are now being charged with the “crime” of performing the job for which they were hired.
The initial directive went after eight senior executives at the bureau, including those overseeing national security, cybersecurity, and counter-terrorism, and it said they needed to be fired unless they retired beforehand. The FBI’s acting director indicated the future removal of hundreds or thousands of agents was under consideration. Such a move would be contrary to the civil service protections provided by law.
Imagine if you will, a president with his own police force, run by people totally beholding to that president and not the law. They would investigate whomever they were directed to investigate. They would not investigate someone if they were told to look the other way. Now imagine that that president is a convicted felon who just released other convicted felons from jail. Imagine also that this president has sworn to curb the importation of fentanyl by closing the border but just released a man found guilty of importing millions of dollars of fentanyl. Should he have direct control of the FBI?
The legislative and judicial branches of government are the only things standing between a massive takeover of the nation’s police force and a return to law and order. Will either or both of these bodies live up to their oaths of office or will they succumb to their fears? Recent events paint a bleak picture of the future.
