Boys Will Be Boys
A recent NT Times opinion article describes those closest to the president as “Trump’s Vicious Sewing Circle.” Apparently, according to the author, Maureen Dowd, the infighting, name-calling, and backbiting within this male coven has boiled over into the hallways of the White House and on to social media posts. She quotes the White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, dismissing a recent hair-pulling incident with, “Boys will be boys.”
It is easy to envision that the chaos we see as a result of their actions would probably be a reflection of the chaos within. In one nasty spat, it was Peter Navarro who was the target of Elon Musk who used his own Twitter/X platform to describe Navarro as “dumber than a sack of bricks.” As an outside observer I would have to say there is plenty of dumb to go around.
This group added an extra dose of testosterone with the appointment of Pete Hegseth who is described as directing the Trump reality-show, the Real Housewives of the Pentagon. Apparently, Hegseth’s wife Jennifer is known around the Pentagon as “the human leash” who has had difficulty keeping her pet on the straight and narrow.
It is interesting to note that within this hypermasculine white male group of Neanderthals, we find a leader who uses spray tan from a fire hose, a VP with enough man-liner to make Dee Snider of Twisted Sister jealous, and a Secretary of Defense who requested a makeup studio at the Pentagon.
It’s all enough to make you question the real motivation for adopting the Village People’s “YMCA” as their theme song. Their public stance against the transgender population brings to mind the quote from Hamlet, "The lady doth protest too much, methinks."
