Complacency

The Democratic Party is nothing if not complacent. With very few exceptions, they seem to be once again, calmly biding their time resting assured that Trump is doing everything in his power to allow democrats to regain control of congress and eventually, the presidency. Their recently released “post mortem” on the 2024 election where Kamala Harris lost, was just pablum to state the obvious. The report was filled with platitudes without substance.

In a time when money no longer merely suggests political direction but actively controls it, complacency assures defeat. Political money is the elephant in the room and you won’t be heard when you whisper platitudes. You need a sound message that addresses substantive issues, provides tangible solutions, and you need to shout that message from the rooftops.
One place to start is the economy. James Carville said during the Bill Clinton campaign in 1992, “It’s the economy, stupid.” He was right. You can also substitute other terms for the word economy to get your message across. Healthcare also demands attention. If you live in America you don’t need a degree in political science or economics to know that the American economy is more than the stock market. It is grocery prices, gas prices, housing prices, drug prices, hospital costs, heating (AC) bills, transportation, and tuition costs that get a voter’s attention. No, democrats pointing out the obvious three-alarm fire in the White House is not enough.
On the other side of the aisle, I once had respect for republicans and even supported some of their saner ideas of smaller government and a balanced budget. However, their acceptance and enablement of the man-child throwing a temper-tantrum does not earn my sympathy. The fact that a grifter was able to infiltrate their ranks and rob them of their core values points to flaws in the system.
It remains to be seen if republicans and independents will be able to accept a more centrist democratic message, but its certainly worth a try. Sitting back and hoping that the MAGA juggernaut self-destructs under the weight of its own corruption will be very dangerous. A fickle electorate has a short memory. A few late gestures from the head grifter could still turn things around for this MAGA carbuncle riding the ass of the Republican Party.
Historically, a midterm correction in the party balance has a high likelihood of success. But as we have seen, the past is not always prologue.
“In the face of evil, to sit silent is an even greater evil. Complacency is ever the enabler of darkest deeds.”—Robert Fanney
